Stevia (botanical name Stevia rebaudiana) is a plant species from Brazil and Paraguay. Contains a substance called steviozi or steviol having more sweetening power of sugar. Used in several countries as an alternative sweetener to sugar.
The sweet taste of the leaves are known for centuries indigenous N. America who use it as a natural sweetener. In recent years the stevia plant and sweeteners derived from the leaves of attracted attention because of increased demand for foods low in sugar and calories. The leaves of the plant and sweeteners derived from it have multiple sweetness than sugar, do not perform energy (calories) and do not contain carbohydrates
